Outdoor Secular Program Serving Middle Tennessee
Who We Are
OUTINGS at Emerson Farm believes that childhood is best nurtured through connection to the natural environment, community, creativity, and self.
Serving children ages 3 ½ –12, our secular drop-off program provides a safe welcoming space where preschoolers and homeschool aged children can gather, explore, and grow together.
OUTINGS is rooted in the rhythms of the seasons and a shared appreciation of the Earth. Our days are guided by creative projects, story processes, imaginative play and wonder, while exploring the natural world around us.
OUTINGS’ Guides draw inspiration from Montessori methodologies, Waldorf and Reggio Emilia philosophies, and place-based learning. They embrace child-led discovery, imaginative play, social-emotional development, and hands-on creative experiences.
Most of our learning takes place outdoors across the beautiful landscape of Emerson Farm nestled in the Bells Bend corridor with a sheltered barn classroom providing space for gathering, creating, and connecting.
Through seasonal projects, collaborative play, and meaningful experiences, children develop the qualities we value most:
⁃ stewardship of the land and one another
⁃ courage of warriors
⁃ creativity of innovators
⁃ care of protectors
Throughout the year, OUTINGS also hosts seasonal community gatherings such as an Autumnal Equinox Gathering in September; a (Celebration of the Spirits) in November; and a Winter Market & Solstice celebration in December. These gatherings create opportunities for families and community to come together; build meaningful relationships; and deepen their connection to both the land and one another.
We are committed to fostering an inclusive community where every child and family belongs. OUTINGS does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status in any of its activities or operations.
WE COME TOGETHER TO GROW
We welcome families seeking a secular community grounded in respect, curiosity, connection, and a deep appreciation for the world we share.
